Hi, I'm Ashley Ryan! I'm a photographer based in Philadelphia, PA. My photography knows no bounds, but I specialize in portraiture, candid street photos, activism (such as protests, demonstrations, rallies, etc.) and trains/transit. If you'd like to hire me for a shoot, would like to use one of my images for something, or if you have any questions at all, please contact me! Use the form on this page, or hit me up on Instagram DMs. I'll try to get back to you quickly.
My Process
Photography is an art form that lends itself to fitting in a tight schedule. Even if I'm insanely busy, I try to find some time to take a few photos nearly every day. Unlike most photographers today, I use both digital and film cameras. In many situations, traditional film can give much better results than digital, and photos often have a warmer, more natural appearance when shot on film. Film cameras are also far more diverse than digital cameras, allowing more creative techniques with more specialized cameras. I can often be seen out shooting with a camera that looks like a child's toy, or looks like it just popped out of a time machine. A good photographer can make a good photo with a $5000 camera, but only a great photographer can make a great photo with a $20 camera.
